Generally, Bollywood thrillers are the most predictable ones but this movie defies this stereotype. Set up in 1942, the director has captured the real essence of Calcutta appropriately. Byomkesh Bakshy played by our beloved Sushant Singh Rajput is one of his best performances. The story revolves around the search of a missing person by Byomkesh which unintentionally unveils a bigger conspiracy/threat to Calcutta. The supporting cast of strong actors like Neeraj Kabi, Swastika Mukherjee, Anand Tiwari has done amazing work too. Duration seems a bit extended but the tremendous performance of Sushant and the Mysterious storyline of the film keep you stick to the screen. The film is also considered as the ‘Sherlock’ of Indian Cinema.Ī 2016 film based on the life story of Professor Sirus at Aligarh Muslim University. His character is portrayed by Manoj Bajpayee and the movie reflects the taboo in our society related to Sex/Intercourse and Homosexuality. It also tells that the phobia exists irrespective of the reputed institutions like Court and Rank 3 university. It raises the question of how much privacy (everyone’s fundamental right) is respected or how easily it can be destroyed in our country if powerful people are involved. These incidents and humiliation lead to the death of an innocent in the end. But the film departs with numerous learnings and acceptance.
